During this week, as it is deadline week, my partner and I began to create the production schedule and shooting script for our music video. I focused on creating the production schedule particularly, whilst my partner did the call sheets. We left the shooting script till last as we wanted to do this together. We found this fairly difficult because it was hard to plan out every little detail down to 3 second shots which we were not completely sure about. We will try our best to stick as closely to this shooting script as possible and in the event of a shortage of shots, we will film more than we need. This will be beneficial for us if we need to replace some. I also completed the DigiPak flat plan whilst my partner worked on completing the Magazine Advert flat plan. Next week, we shall begin filming during the half term holiday in which my partner and I plan to film a majority of our music video, however we still need to find a girl to play the love interest in the music video, which we must do by the end of the week as it will hold us back from filming in the holidays.

Recci Images
This image which has been taken in my bathroom, is one of our locations for our music video. In the opening of the song, when the instrumental is playing (15 secs) we want to have the artist shown getting ready but we don't want to show his face to the audience in the intro. The intro is 15 secs long in which we will have short shots showing the artist gradually getting ready. In this shot in particular, we want to show him in the mirror doing his hair, getting ready to go out. The show we want to do, will be from behind him, in the reflection of the mirror, but his face will not be visible. This will add suspense to the video and the audience will be anticipating his appearance.

London is one of the main locations in which we wish to film our music video. In order to make our video appeal to our target audience, we must ensure to use locations which are easily identifiable, as well as relevant to the theme. As the song is about a relationship, we want to show the couple being romantic and spending time together. Showing a long shot of them walking along the embankment is quite romantic and is something couples would be seen to do. We also wish to film in other places in London which are much busier, such as Trafalgar Square/ Oxford Street. This would create more of an atmosphere in the video and would make the main actors stand out more amongst a crowd.

Blog Reflection 6
During this week, we have been working towards our deadline and completing all our pre production work. In 2 weeks, we will be starting the production part of the project, so I spent a lot of time perfecting all my blog posts to get better marks. We also recorded a focus group after conducting a survey for our target audience and to find out what they typically expect from a Hip-Hop/ Soul video. This week, all the work was completed, which enabled my partner and I to start drawing up the flat plan. Next week, we will be completing our shooting scripts, production schedules and call sheets, so there will be a lot of pressure, but as we have been doing all along, the work shall be split evenly between me and my partner and proof read by one another.

Survey Analysis
Analysing our survey results, I can say that the most
important character trait people expect to see in the artist is confidence. I
will ensure to choose an actor who is willing to lip sync and feels comfortable
acting in front of my partner and I, as well as in public amongst other extras
and people that may be involved in creating this music video. The respondents
also stated that the artist would have to be in touch with his fashion and be a
real charmer, appealing to the female target audience, which is mainly the
target audience for this music video. The artist’s image is very important to
the music video as it defines the video, as a whole, so, we will ensure to
create an image that the audience expect to see. By looking at the responses we have collected, we will have our artist wear fitted jeans, fresh white trainers, and a white t-shirt. This is smart, casual and classy all in one and may also get him to wear a hat, as it is typical of boys this age, and is highly in fashion currently. The most popular artists that
the audience think our artist relates to are Jason Derulo and Mario, which is what we were hoping for. This will help us establish our artist properly, and we will use these artists as role models for our own artist. The brand
and artist image that these both have, are exactly how we expected our artist
to be so we will plan the image of our artist thoroughly. Respondents also
expect to see a narrative theme in the video and the development of their
relationship which is beneficial for us because it shows us that the audience
has the same vision of the video as us, and understand exactly where we are
coming from with our opinions.

Focus Group on Final Idea
1:01- Katherine's physical description of the artist matches the image that the partner and I have of the artist. As this is the first time she is listening to the song, her opinion is essential to us because she had no background knowledge of the artist at all, which tells us that the image we expect the artist to have, and what the audience expect them to have, matches well, thus showing us as meeting our target audience well.
5:56- Aleemos took initiative and gave us further feedback, elaborating on the question I asked them, and going into more detail about his point which we loved about him. As well as understanding our views, he also gave examples of how we could make our music video. Chris Brown- Forever and Excuse Me Miss which follow the same structure we wish to create.
Overall, this focus group was very useful for us as we got to talk about our ideas in the open, in full detail as well as keep our options open to the ideas everyone had given us in addition. The main thing which I liked about this focus group is initially, everyone had a similar vision in reaction to hearing the song the first time, which means, as an audience, they have a clear idea of their expectations.
Audience Research Survey
After merging our ideas, my partner and I had to conduct a survey to try and find out what types of videos our target audience would expect for the song we have chosen and how they think the artist would be. My survey can be found on the link below:

Blog Reflection 5
This week, I had to merge my ideas with another member in the class, to produce an overall idea of music video. We decided as a pair to choose his artist 'Jackie Boyz' because the video can be made to match the lyrics better and the song would appeal more to the target audience. However, we decided to stick with the theme of narrative/ interpretive and live performance which I had chosen when pitching my music video. Also, we contacted the music artist and he gave us permission so we were both happier to use him. This week was very productive for us as we got permission, and allocated tasks to each other.

Permission and Final Song
After our individual pitches, we had to merge with someone in the class and chose a final song. We chose to use my partner's song because the lyrics were broader and will therefore allow us to be more flexible and creative with the music video. Whilst choosing his song, we agreed on incorporating the visual ideas and video types I had explained in my pitch as these can also relate to this song. After deciding on the song, we had to find other means of contacting his artist because he had still not gotten a response via email. I found him through social networking sites and alternatively asked his permission on twitter, where I have attached the permission beneath, and a link to the song and lyrics which is called 'Callin' Me' by Jackie Boyz.

Blog Reflection 4
In this week, I had to find a music artist from unsigned website, that would give permission to us to use their song for no commercial use. I struggled a fair bit to do so, and when I found the artist, he didn't reply to me so it was hard to get hold of him, especially because he couldn't be found on twitter and Facebook were I could contact him directly. I also had to analyse the lyrics of his song and prepare a pitch of my music Artist to the rest of the class. In this, I discussed who the target audience would be, the artists brand/image, lyrics, and potential themes/ideas for my music video. Following this, I conducted a focus group with the members I presented the PowerPoint to, and was pleased with the overall feedback and constructive criticism I received. I will ensure to take all these comments on board when I actually go to create my music video.

Pitch Evaluation
Overall, I received positive feedback. Everyone seemed to
like the song I had chosen. They particularly liked the lyrics of the song and
thought they would be good to base a music video on. I explained how I wanted
the style to be narrative, telling a story of the lyrics and showing the
development of the relationship between the characters in the video, which they
also agreed with. From this pitch and focus group, I can definitely state that
my music video will be in a narrative form as everyone thinks this is
appropriate for the song. However, they also said I could consider including
live performance showing the artist lip syncing, looking directly at the camera
as these two styles would complement each other well and break up the
narrative, making it more entertaining for the audience, as opposed to just a
boring story showing a relationship between a boy and a girl.
Also, they liked the idea of the locations I have chosen.
They agree with London being a romantic, and identifiable location, allowing
the audience to relate to the video, however, they do think that using London
as a location will be risky. They brought to my awareness that it’s highly
likely that the actors I choose will not be willing to travel that far out to film
and in the worst case scenario if the footage hasn’t come out as well as my
partner and I have expected, it will be extremely difficult to re film these
scenes. I couldn’t agree more with this opinion, and so will try to create a
video using public locations and places that are easily accessible for the
characters and us so we can get the most out of our filming time.
